Inspect the area around your garage door to see if something is blocking the photo eye sensors. Then look at the tracks to see if there is any buildup on the inside. You’ll need to get a step ladder to look at the tracks on the top part of your garage, as it will be difficult to see from ground level. It may also not be a bad idea to proactively wipe down your garage door tracks periodically to prevent this type of buildup from occurring. Running a damp rag along each track should be enough to remove anything that’s lingering on the tracks.

If your spring does not get longer as you wind it, you are winding it the wrong direction probably because it is improperly installed. There are many steps to replacing torsion springs, but overall it's a simple, straightforward process. If you're inclined to attempt it, find a good online video tutorial (preferably done by a garage door pro) that walks you through the entire process, including how to buy the right size of springs. You can also buy new springs and any related parts online, along with the most important items that you need: the two solid-metal winding rods that you use to wind and unwind the torsion springs.
R-value describes the power of the insulation in your door. The higher the r-value, the stronger the insulation. Those doors will have better energy efficiency than doors that have a low r-value. Replacing torsion springs is done with the door closed. You start by carefully unloading all of the springs (most standard-size doors have two; any broken spring will already be unloaded), using the winding bars. Then, you unbolt the springs from the central rod bracket, disconnect the cables from the pulleys, and loosen the pulleys and slide them off of the rod. Next, you swap out the springs, reinstall the pulleys and cables, and secure the inside ends of the springs to the central bracket. You will need to get 2-3 people to help lift the door up because the full weight can be anywhere from 150 to 300 pounds. We don’t recommend lifting the door when the spring break's due to the danger of it falling on someone. If you absolutely must get your garage door open, raw strength is what you need. When you get the door in the up position, use vise-grips or a c-clamp on the track below the bottom roller to hold the door in the up position.

Received all items as indicated, I would recommend purchasing a metal center bearing also, other Than the plastic that this comes with. Install was easy and strait forward. hardest part was finding how many turns to tighten those springs?? I used a general rule of thumb of a full turn for every ft. Of door. 4 quarter turns equals 1 full turn. I found that 26 balanced the door perfectly. These springs seem a little smaller than what was there however, the coil itself is the same. (Pic) After installing, I recommend oiling the springs with some motor oil. This will help with rust and noise. Good luck with yours, it's worth the work for the saving!!

Grab a tape measure and press the hook between two spring coils and note the length of 20 coils. Then measure 40 coils.
