If the door opens this way, then there’s probably something wrong with the garage door opener. It’s a good idea to make sure the opener is plugged into its nearby power outlet. Also, make sure the circuit breaker for the garage door opener hasn’t flipped to the “OFF” position. If it has, then there may be an electrical issue that your garage door specialist should check out.
Not only was the upward-lifting garage door and the electric garage door opener invented by Overhead Door Corporation’s founder C.G Johnson in the 1920s, but we also have a tradition in excellence for garage door repair, service and maintenance. Even with the most reliable products problems can arise and when they do it’s important to know who to contact to fix these issues while providing solutions to prevent future complications.
Over time, our reputation has provided us with wonderful opportunities, such as supplying the rolling doors for Paul Brown Stadium while also serving as the service provider for Great American Ballpark. We are proud to be known in this city that we love. And as true Cincinnati fans, we are honored to play a small part helping the teams we root for!

Warning! If the door is partially open and crooked, don’t touch it. Period. It’s a sign your door is off balance, and it’s usually caused by a problematic cable. It’s likely the door is still under tension from the spring, and one false move could send a 150-pound door crashing down, causing damage or injury, says Vincent Johnson, owner of Garage Door Doctor of Cypress, Texas.

If the sensors are malfunctioning, it can cause the garage door to get stuck. One of the sensor lights will typically begin blinking if they aren’t working properly. The first thing to check for is an obstruction in the path of your garage door. If the doorway is clear, then check to see if the sensors are properly aligned. If they are out of alignment, then they can’t see one another and their line of vision is broken. Re-aligning them should result the garage door becoming unstuck if this is the case.
In addition to the bodily risk involved, it’s simply not an easy task. There’s the possibility that you will not install it correctly. At worst, this creates the risk that the mechanism will fail at the wrong time and injure you or someone in your family. At best, this means it will malfunction, and you’ll have to call professionals to fix it. It will save time, money and potential heartache to simply call a professional to install your new door springs correctly the first time.

Your door’s torsion spring is located approximately one foot from the top section of your door when it is closed. It consists of two large coil springs, and is approximately the length of your arm. Its purpose is to balance the weight of your door so that a door weighing between 160 and 185 pounds is practically weightless to lift. As such, it makes it possible for a garage door opener to raise the door using only ten pounds of pressure.

Doors come with one or two torsion springs. If either spring is broken, the garage door opener may struggle to lift the weight of the door or fail to open the door at all. If a spring is broken, call a professional for service as these can be very dangerous to work with. Don’t try to open the door until a professional comes to inspect it and replace the springs. Springs can only be used for a certain number of open and close cycles, and over time they will eventually break and need replacing.
9.6 Bending the cable will help you avoid problems with the tip at the end of the cable catching on the end bearing plate and causing the cable to come off and the garage door to jam, cock, or fall. Check to make sure the cable is straight in the slot and not sticking out the side. Also the edge of the cable stop should not be pointing to the side as displayed. The cable tip should fit completely inside the drum, with the rounded part facing out so the tip can't scrape the end bearing plate.

Garage door springs don’t require extensive care and maintenance. However, they also can’t be left entirely to their own devices. Spraying the springs with WD-40 is a good place to start. It’s also a good idea to check the balance of the garage door every year. To do this, simply lift the garage door up about halfway and let go. If the springs are in good working condition, the door should remain still. If the springs are beginning to weaken, the door might sag or fall. By taking these basic steps, you can preserve your door springs for longer.

Product was received in two days and was as advertised. Installing these myself saved around $150 but it took around 2-3 hours. I would imagine everyone's experience is going to be different. These springs appear to be heavier duty than the ones they replaced. I couldn't use the same slots for tension as the old ones and it was trial and error in adjusting the length of my pull cable until the door closed as it should. I need to replace the springs on my other garage door and would think that will take less than an hour based on what I learned from the first install.
I purchased a garage door and opener and had HD install it. It was around $3600 and when the price increased by about $800 I called right away to pay it with no delay (these are all estimates written from memory). Anyway, I I bought the garage so that the front of the house would be prettier and it is but the old garage worked fine and I don’t even have a car in it so I don’t open and close it all and it actually only gets opened 2-3 times a month when a friend who stores their car there uses it. However, soon after the garage was installed, this friend told me the garage was working intermittently. When I called HD to come look at it, they said I would have to pay around $85 to have it looked at which didn’t make sense to me since it was brand new and almost immediately not working so it was likely a problem with the product or installation. HD would not provide immediate assistance to fix the problem, they insisted other steps which were unreasonable given it was a new garage and this request added great difficulty for me. Five months later after this back and forth calling to have someone from HD to just come and fix it, I went into the Huntington Beach store, spoke with Ryan who was polite and with little to say, he said I’ll put you on the list for an appointment and they will call in 24-48 to book a day and time. I was thankful. I also expressed my concern that I would not be charged for this visit and he said no unless it wasn’t covered under warranty. Two days later the installer called and said it will cost to around $95 just to show up. They arrived later that week, charged $95 and fixed the problem with no additional fee. If the garage was being used the way most garages are used and it was out of warranty, I could understand for a fee to cone out and look at it but because it stopped working almost Immediately and all the fuss and delay to have it fixed by HD was disappointing. When you gave me a quote then raised it by 20%% I paid immediately and without hesitation but this service was not reciprocated. I may have multiple projects at multiple sites but even if that weren’t the case, I would hope you would keep up your good costumer service history otherwise, your competitors willl slowly be better. Kindly return the fee charged for this service. Read less http://www.youtube.com/v/Z_eZc-kh40c&feature=share

If the garage door is broken or damaged, it can affect the feeling of the entire house. It’s not only an inconvenience, but it can also make your entire house feel less sophisticated and less functional. If you happen to be trying to sell your house, this can seem like a major detraction. Even if you’re only having guests over, you may feel as though you’re doing less than putting your best foot forward by having a broken garage door.
6.10 If the garage door comes off the floor when you pull down on the bar, and if the cone still won't loosen, tap the bar next to the cone with a hammer to force the cone beyond the swollen portion of shaft. Maintain a firm grip on the bar; keep it firmly inserted completely into the cone; and be prepared at all times for the cone to slip, break, explode or break free from the shaft and yank the bar down.

A standard double garage door is 7 ft. high by 16 ft. wide. Standard single doors are 7 ft. high by 8 or 9 ft. wide. Because the doors are so large, few home centers and only some garage door stores keep many doors in stock, so expect to order one instead of buying it off the shelf. Garage doors are available in wood, fiberglass and steel. Steel doors, like ours, are light, maintenance-free, affordable, readily available, and have an insulating value as high as R-19.

5.1 With the cables still tight on the drums, mark the drums and torsion shaft at each end with a file or a marking pen. If at least one of the springs is still wound, don't touch the cable drums and don't grab the shaft. If the cable breaks, the drum could spin and the cable rip through muscle and bone. If the set screws aren't tight enough, the shaft could spin and cause injury.

Homeowners have long been warned that torsion springs are extremely dangerous to work with and that replacing them must be left to a professional. But these claims are somewhat exaggerated. If you understand how they work, and you pay attention to what you're doing, you can replace them safely and surprisingly easily. Granted, they're a little spooky to work with at first (partly due to their reputation), but this is a good thing—you really don't want to forget that they're under tension. Thinking about every step — before you take it — is the key to staying safe.

If you happen to be home when these break, you’ll hear a loud bang from inside your garage. This bang can be so loud that some people might think a firecracker went off inside their garage. That’s because garage doors can be very heavy and despite what most people think, it’s not the garage door opener that does the heavy lifting, but rather the heavy-duty springs of the door.
There are many steps to replacing torsion springs, but overall it's a simple, straightforward process. If you're inclined to attempt it, find a good online video tutorial (preferably done by a garage door pro) that walks you through the entire process, including how to buy the right size of springs. You can also buy new springs and any related parts online, along with the most important items that you need: the two solid-metal winding rods that you use to wind and unwind the torsion springs.
Overhead Garage Door was prompt in keeping the appointment, efficient in their work and professional when they worked on my garage door. The garage door was broken and the technician couldn’t have been nicer or quicker in getting the door repaired. I don’t know when I’ve had such good service from anyone! To add to that already wonderful service, I then received a follow up from the owner asking me about my experience and to make sure my door was working well. I highly recommend Overhead Garage Door for all of your garage door needs.

Step 2: Check the tracks with a level to make sure they're properly aligned. Horizontal tracks should slant slightly down toward the back of the garage; with roll-up doors, the vertical sections of track should be exactly plumb. Both tracks must be at the same height on the garage walls. If the tracks are not properly aligned, loosen but do not remove the screws or bolts that hold the mounting brackets, and tap the tracks carefully into position. Recheck the tracks with the level to make sure they're in the right position; then tighten the screws or bolts at the mounting brackets. https://www.youtube.com/v/Z_eZc-kh40c
Center and level the first section after you install the brackets. The door must be level even if the floor isn’t, so use shims under the section to level it. The rubber gasket on the bottom section will fill the gaps created by an unlevel floor. To hold the level in place, tape it to the section. To hold the section in place, lightly toenail a 16d nail into the frame and bend it over the section. Add brackets and rollers before setting them in place and stack one section on top of another, toenailing as you go up.
